Project:

Columbia University Awakening our Democracy Series

Role:

Creative Lead

Responsible for Conceptual Art Direction, Design, and Implementation

Brief:

Awakening our Democracy is a series of signature events for Columbia’s Office of University Life. With panels and discussions focusing on a variety of issues such as race, mental health, and technology, these events have been an important resource for students during the pandemic and beyond. I was asked to conceptualize and design the key art and all marketing materials for the 3 unique events held during the 2021/2022 academic year.

Process:

The University Life team assembles a group of experts for important discussions relevant to the student body of Columbia University. As art director, I was tasked with conceptualizing the theme of each event into the visual marketing to be utilized throughout campus and online. These panels involve important discussions that require the visuals to be inclusive and welcoming, while also engaging enough to break through to a variety of students. For each project, I started by conceptualizing and presenting broad graphic concepts followed by two refined key art concepts for the board for review. After rounds of feedback and final selection, I then complete the build of all the graphics to be used online, in print, and on digital screens throughout campus.

This project required a unique concept, art direction, and design for each of the three signature events held in the 2021/2022 school year. I have also been responsible for art direction, branding and design for a variety of additional projects for Columbia’s University Life throughout the 2021/22 academic year.
